This REALLY made me laugh! And, I had forgotten all about Conrad and that book.
Made me think of Poe’s tell tale heart. Inside one’s own head. See you tomorrow night.

Why is it that New Year’s is dredging up all these obscure quotes? (and is it solipsistic to comment on one’s own post?)
We are alone, absolutely alone on this chance planet: and, amid all the forms of life that surround us, not one, excepting the dog, has made an alliance with us.

	Things happen for a reason…
there is light at the end of the tunnel…
bad is never good until worse happens…
ask about your neighbors, then buy the house…
do not employ handsome servants…
Sometimes crap just happens to good people, and it sucks all things round and
ball-like. You got through it, I love you man, and you always have a friend here.

I am a software developer and have had the same problem that you have! I think software devs are about the same as “real” writers – full of ego, quick to self criticize, fragile and prone to “running off screeching to the hills"… and also incredibly protective of old works.
My advice is to hold your chin up high; it was the best that you could do at the time, and someone thinks that it is good enough that others will be interested in it as well. You should be very proud.
	Keep up the great work!

The women must shop in their perfectly pleated tennis skirts in the middle of winter, with their stretch marks hanging out over their untouched tummies (which should havehad had lipo). Your writing is quite intriguing, wish I had such talent.

Technically, the boil you’re referring to isn’t fermentation. They bring the water and grains—known as the ‘mash’—to a temperature of anywhere from 148°-160° (thereabouts). Two enzymes, alpha-amylase and beta-amylase are activated at that temperature range. The alpha/beta amylase enzymes attack ‘branches’ of starch molecules, converting them into smaller molecules of sugar that the yeast ‘eat.’ Alcohol is the waste byproduct from the yeast feasting on sugar.
Still, you’re 100% spot-on when it comes to ‘frost brewing’—nothing comes close to ‘frost’ temperatures during the critical mash or fermentation stages.
Also, thanks for the Strohs reminder—I completely forgot about their inane ‘fire brewed’ beer!

The lies and conspiracy may be even worse than you portray. From my limited experience, brewing involves raising a liquid to a boil for an extended period, temperatures well past the advertised 34 degrees. If anything, they should advertise frost-fermented, but this probably doesn’t sound as sexy as Stroh’s slogan: “Fire-brewed". So they completely distort facts, insult their audience, and plagiarize Stroh’s in a non-sensical manner.
